ALLISEN LEARNARD has two decades of experience making the performing arts accessible and inclusive in any setting. She’s known for her ability to bring the performative arts in to special needs and early childhood classrooms, as well as her work facilitating mindful movement and dance for family engagement and community events.
She studied dance early on at Munson Williams Proctor Institute, later earning a B.F.A in dance, with a focus in psychology and community arts, from Florida International University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She went on to become a 200 hr certified yoga teacher from SOMA Yoga Institute, a Wolf Trap certified early childhood lead teaching artist and mentor, and Baby Arts Play™️ facilitator.
Her knowledge of dance techniques is well-rounded, including ballet and modern, west African and Afro-diasporas, Middle Eastern folk and fusion, tap dance, and physical theater. She has performed nationally and internationally with professional companies, such as Momentum Dance Company, Animate Objects Physical Theater, Natasha Tsakos Physical Theater, Pioneer Winter Collective, and Binti Drum and Dance Ensemble. She currently performs with Ajna Tribal (FCBD®️) and Laterna Dance Company. Allisen is an accomplished tap dance soloist, who has studied with and performed along side many great teachers, such as Katherine Kramer, Jane Goldberg, and Bill Evans.
Allisen has made teaching her passion, leading with the belief that dance is for every body, regardless of background and capacity. Throughout her career as a teacher and facilitator, Allisen has reached thousands of students of diverse social and economic backgrounds. She works closely with schools, community centers, parks, government facilities, nonprofit organizations, galleries, and museums to offer classes, performances, and personal development workshops. She was awarded the Richmond Performing Arts Alliance “Support Award” in 2025 for her work in early childhood classrooms. And, she is recognized by the state of Virginia as an exceptional teaching artist, being listed on the Virginia Commission for the Arts’ “Teaching Artist Roster” since 2024.
